Skateboarding Video Work

Annually, we throw a contest in Myrtle Beach in light of a friend we lost way too soon, Derrick Rosado. (still love and miss you tons dude) He was the weirdest// best skateboarder to date in this area. He used to have a halloween contest every year, just because he wanted one, he didn’t ask for local skate shop sponsorship, he made the trophy’s himself, and everyone was invited  to skate and enjoy hotdogs. He used to go buy a $10 dollar charcoal grill from Rite-aid and make them right there in the parking lot… you could get one as long as the single bag of charcoal he bought lasted, after that… it was on you.

I made a video and tried to capture what its like to be at this contest… and even though he’s gone. The thing still rages. Granted, we don’t really do hot dogs anymore, but everyone dresses up and skates in the costumes they wore. There are tons of Prizes, for the kids, the bigger kids, the rippers, and then the old guys (like me) that should have given up years ago. Costume contest, blah blah blah… you get it,

Kids come out to rip, parents get to see how close all the local talent is, and its very supportive, just like Derrick always was. Now, the local skateshops are involved, we sell ‘I remember helloween’ t-shirts, we have a PA instead of a bullhorn, and tons of jams. Still takes all damn day, and usually its still pretty hot outside. Its hands-down the best contest Ive been to, and I hope it continues for many, many more years.

Keep RIPping Derrick, til next time.
